Greg Beard wanted to follow his in father's footsteps and open a restaurant.
So the chef, who worked in the food industry, opened "Chef Greg's Soul-N-the Wall" in 2007 -- a little joint at 10009 Curtis and Wyoming on Detroit's northwest side, near Mumford High School. It's mostly carryout.
Beard cooks serious soul food such as pork chops, chicken wings, meat loaf and gravy, fried catfish and burgers. But he's perhaps best known for the "Boogaloo Wonderland Sandwich," a version of a Sloppy Joe on a sesame seed roll with ground beef, grilled onions, cheese and "Jean’s Sauce of the Island."
Carlos Parisi, host of Detroit Digest, recently stopped by to chat with Beard and sample some of his tasty food.
