Jennifer Crumbley, mother of Ethan Crumbley, the teen who went on a mass shooting at Oxford High School in 2021, wants out of prison while her appeal moves slowly through the system.

Tresa Baldas of the Detroit Free Press reports that Crumbley's attorney Michael Dezsi writes in a motion filed Thursday that it is "grossly unfair and unjust" to keep her locked up for years while her appeal drags on in the courts.

Crumbley, 46, and her husband James were both convicted in separate trials on four counts of involuntary manslaughter relating to four students their son murdered on Nov. 30, 2021. During the rampage, seven others were wounded including a teacher. Both are serving 10 to 15 year sentences.

Her attorney Dezsi writes in a motion:

"... It would be grossly unfair and unjust to keep Mrs. Crumbley locked up for years while this matter proceeds slowly — likely for years — before the appellate courts," Dezsi continued, noting she's already been locked up for more than three years. "Given the overtly tenuous nature of these charges, the prosecution should not reap the reward of a lengthy unlawful incarceration before the Michigan Supreme Court can hear and decide this case."

Crumbley is currently serving her sentence at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti. James Crumbley, 48, is currently being housed at the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia.

Ethan Crumbley, now 18, is at the Oaks Correctional Facility in Manistee in northern Michigan.
