Roy Goodman was sentenced Friday in Detroit to 30 months to 15 years in prison in the deadly dog mauling on the city's west side in January 2024 of Harold Phillips, a father of six children, WDIV reports. His wife Trevina was sentenced to three years probation.

Both were both charged with one count of dangerous animal causing death.

The deadly attack, according to WDIV, happened on Jan. 29, 2024, at 9:20 p.m. when three dogs escaped from Roy Goodman's yard through an unsecured gate and went after Phillips, who was walking home from the bus in the West Chicago and Longacre area.

“I wish it wouldn’t have happened,” Roy Goodman told the Phillips family in the courtroom on Friday. “I’m so sorry.”

The dogs were put to sleep.
