Renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who has been involved in some of nation's highest-profile cases involving police-related deaths, plans to officially endorse Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield for mayor.
The endorsement is scheduled to be announced Tuesday night at a reception featuring Crump at the Bridge Center on Grand River in Detroit.
"This special event will bring together Detroit’s community leaders, advocates, and changemakers in support of Sheffield’s inclusive vision for the future of the city under her campaign theme, 'Together We Can, Together We Will,'" a press release says.
Over the years Crump has been involved in high-profile cases including Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown and George Floyd.
He has law offices in city's around the country, with the home office being in Florida.
To date, Sheffield has raised more funds than any other candidate in the race.
