
Democratic Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson announced Thursday that he's running for governor.

Besides on social meida, Swanson made his announcement at a campaign event at Mott Community College on Thursday evening.
Last year, Swanson appeared in TV ads endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president. He also delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August.
"Instead of hate, we chose hope. On January 6, the opposite occurred," he said during his speech in August.
“We need a leader who will embody what’s affixed to all three sides of my sheriff patrol cars: ‘Protect, serve and unify.’ Kamala Harris is that leader."
Swanson joins Democrat Jocelyn Benson in the race for governor. Democratic Mayor Mike Duggan is running as an Independent. Republican state Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt is also a candidate.
