Fox 47 News in Lansing in 2018

Ex-Michigan Republican Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville says it was him, not Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer who first coined the phrase "Fix the damn roads."

Richardville made the comment to reporters on Friday after a taping of WKAR's "Off The Record" show in East Lansing, according to the Detroit News.

Whitmer made the catchy phrase her 2018 campaign slogan.

"My constituents are saying, 'Just fix the damn roads,'" Richardville said on Friday of the comments he made well before 2018, the News reports.

The News did a quick analysis of Richardville's claim and found it was valid, citing media reports back in 2014 when he was quoted as saying "fix the damn roads."
