President Donald Trump came to Michigan on Tuesday and announced that the Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township will receive 21 new F-15EX fighter jets, assuring the base's future as it phases out its A-10 Warthogs.

“As commander-in-chief, I’m proud to announce that very soon, we will replace the retiring A-10 Warthogs with 21 brand-new F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets — the best in the world,” Trump said at the base before heading to a rally at Macomb Community College in Warren to mark his first 100 days in office, according to a report by WXYZ.

"This will keep Selfridge at the cutting edge of North American airpower,” Trump said. “This is an exciting time for the United States military.”

Trump praised Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who recently visited the White House — a move some criticized, saying she was bending to Trump and normalizing some of his offensive behavior and actions.

“I’m not supposed to do that — she’s a Democrat,” Trump said. “She’s done a very good job, frankly. She was very much involved with the Republicans. They worked together on saving it. It was not easy. So, I want to thank you very much, Gretchen. Good job. Thank you.”

Whitmer issued a statement later:

“This is a huge, bipartisan win for Michigan, decades in the making, that will grow our economy and make our country safer. Since day one, I’ve been laser-focused on securing a new fighter mission at Selfridge and supporting the brave service members who step up for our communities every day."

"I appreciate the President’s partnership on this new fighter mission that will protect jobs and show the world that Michigan is the best place to pioneer the next innovations in national defense."

Later, at a rally, Trump gave his trademark divisive speech, trashing liberals and former President Joe Biden while touting what he sees as his accomplishments.

An ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll shows that Trump has the lowest 100-day job approval rating of any president in the past 80 years, according to ABC News. Some detractors have expressed concerns about tariffs and the economy.
