The Ambassador Bridge, privately owned by the Moroun family, is slashing toll rates effective Sunday as it anticipates a spring opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, jointly owned by the state of Michigan and Canada.

The new rate for a car, bus, or motorcycle will drop from $10 to $5.50 for drivers enrolled in the prepaid program. Other toll rates will remain the same, Crain’s Detroit Business reports.

The latest announcement comes after the Ambassador Bridge raised prices in January to $10 for cars, buses, and motorcycles, and $20 with a trailer.

The rates for the Gordie Howe International Bridge will be $5.75 per passenger vehicle, but members of the Breakaway discount program will pay $4.35.

Commercial trucks, oversized vehicles, and larger passenger vehicles will pay a standard toll of $8.75 per axle on the Gordie Howe International Bridge, with a Breakaway rate of $6.90 per axle, Crain’s reports.

There is no set date yet for the opening of the new bridge.
